ARTIST / CREATOR BIOGRAPHY
Susan Keane (1930-2022) was a British Columbia artist whose career connected West Vancouver's sketch-club tradition with the artistic communities of southern Vancouver Island. She studied with painter Irene Poskett and served as president of the West Vancouver Sketch Club in 1976-77, helping guide the community organization that later became the North Shore Artists' Guild. Keane developed a broad painting practice, with watercolor among her documented media. Her subjects included floral studies, toadstools, architecture, steam-era imagery, and British Columbia landscapes. By the 1990s she was associated with Cobble Hill, and she later lived near Victoria. Her work was presented in solo and group exhibitions and entered corporate and private collections. Beyond exhibitions, Keane's paintings were reproduced on cards and calendars. She also contributed works to charitable causes, including animal-related organizations and community fundraisers. Her fluid handling of watercolor, varied subject matter, and sustained involvement in regional arts organizations reflect a career rooted in both creative practice and community life.
